Invited Artists' Works & Statements
"Mountains
in Korea are beautiful in their shapes and depth.
I
tried to express their endless mysterious and fearful feelings through
my
'mountain
series' brooches using sterling silver and bark."

"When
I look around me, I often fix my eyes upon things
that
are familiar. By employing my understanding of some traditional linear
qualities
here, I hope to make my viewers recall a certain comfort of the familiar
things
around
them. Thereby the subtle rhythm of my art work is ultimately realized."
"I
apply my life to my art work. I perceive and consider newly everything
that
passes
by me, and I express it through my work. The brooches I created are the
images
of Jeongnung, my living area which I contact every day."
"Through
ordeals that broke and shattered me, I became smaller each day.
So
I embraced life with love and created another me, which enabled me to see
the world with
open
eyes, to understand, and to share the joy. My works reflect my life in
this respect."
"Nostalgia....
Nostalgia overtakes me sometimes like a faint breeze, stays with me
for
a moment, and leaves.... There is no longing for the things left behind
or
passed
by.... Today, too, I try to fill my longing here...."
"I
have thought about the unique relationship between the Korean character
and
the
Korean environment since I created my 'humnan being series' in 1990. I
wanted to
express
the character of Koreans that has been formed by their environment in which
they have
lived
together with nature, farmed and obeyed nature, or played hopscotch in
their childhood."
"I
express different shapes and feelings of the human mind in an abstract
way
using
the cloisonn'e method of enameling. Old memories, present feelings,
and hopes
are
melted and shown in the lines and colors of the enameling."
