When I look back upon my past, I think of my old friends. I have met a
lot of friends and had experiences with various people. My friends neither
have been always fun nor always happy. And my friends have neither always
been by my side nor forever with me. I think it's very difficult to meet
someone with a pure mind. So to speak, it is not easy to meet a good friend.
I met one such good friend in my first year of high school. Her name was
Shim Woo-Young. We weren't close at first. In fact, I didn't even know
whether she was in my class or not. She was really nice and cheerful. I
wish to call her "my imaginary friend from a children's story," because
she has a way of thinking that seems pure and clean. Even though seven
years have passed now, I still feel the same way and remember her face.
Woo-young's imaginative power is very ordinary, but on the other hand,
maybe it is very uncommon. Strongly, I would like to compare the sense
I have about her as being just like reading a fairy tale. When we were
children and read a fairy tale, we sensed imagination, expectation, interest
or fun, as when Snow White married a prince. I have that kind of feeling
about Woo-Young with all my senses. And I have a good feeling even now
just talking about her. So to speak, she has a more positive way of thinking
than her years. But then, we're really not very old--we're a little over
22 years old. She does not have a selfish character, and she never cheats
anyone. Generally I act like an adult, and I have gotten used to social
gossip or serious joking. But Woo-Young is really pure in heart. She seems
to be an innocent woman, just as if she doesn't know what the world is
really like. She has a weak sense of resolution, so she is easily vulnerable.
Sometimes I feel Woo-Young has unique ideas, but I understand her. She
doesn't do anything just because she is conscious of the eyes of others.
Perhaps her actions and thoughts are really natural. So I love her as my
friend. Also, she is one of my friends who is interested in learning English
through popular music. We're real friends with each other. We have studied
together and tried to understand each other's problems. I have learned
to look back and review my conduct thanks to her, and she has given me
a valuable friendship. I seem to have learned a way to grow, such as giving
advice to Woo-Young.
I have known Woo-Young since high school, and I still think of her as a
friend now. I don't want to think of it on a large scale. I'm thankful
to her for many things. I'm just happy to have met her.
