My Gift from God

By Cho Seung-Pyo ("Joseph")

We all have properties such as houses, money, real estate, and so on. Of course, they are necessary to live our life. But we had better think about people around us except for these things, we are living among so many people. We have to think about friends, parents, lovers, and helpers and even strangers. We always meet them, and then we form some connections with them. I think that the most important things to us are these people. In other words, people who we know may be needed by us in our life.
My best friend, Park Chung-Sik, is the most important person in my life. He is always near me and makes me smile when I am tired of living. I met him nine years ago. He liked to play soccer and was a Christian at that time. He was shorter than others and wore glasses. He also liked to play the guitar like me. We could become friends very easily due to things we had in common--having no father, liking to play soccer and being a Christian. We were classmates in the first grade of high school. In next grade we couldn't see each other at school anymore because I chose to study to enter a university, but he left our school to enter a vocational school in order to get a job. After that time, we couldn't meet frequently.
Two years later, I happened to meet him on the street. At that time, I was studying in university and he was working in a furniture company. We could be best friends as soon as we met again as before, though there were a few differences between us. After I spent one year as a soldier. We decided to open our own business, which was a car wash center.
We spent two months looking for the place until we could finally open it. We both made an effort to wash cars. Most of our customers were taxis. We could earn a profit every month due to our effort. Unfortunately we had no choice but to close the business because we had a quarrel with the person who had rented the washing machine to us. Three months later I went back to my university again, and
he left for Seoul. However, nobody could stop us from our challenge of opening our own business because we thought that we could do anything if we were together. In fact, our real hope is to do something together, and to earn a lot of money. Then we hope to open our own big enterprise in the
future. For that reason, having a car wash center is based on our dream. Finally, it was realized a few months ago. We began to invest our time in washing cars from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am again. Therefore, I must go to work at 10:00 pm these days.
Park Chung-Sik differs from other friends and is a very special person in my life. He always cares and prays to God for me. Whenever he asks to me about my ordinary life, I can comfortably answer about my family, campus life, sad love story and so on. Then, he says to me, "Don't lose your courage. Don't worry about that, everything will be OK," and he adds, "Tell me all of your agonies. I always could be your adviser."
One day, my pastor said to me, "You can be the happiest man in the world when someone who love you is near you all the time." I think that even if someone whom he meant is God, it could be also my friend, especially Park Chung-Sik. I agree with the pastor's words and believe them absolutely. Whenever he is beside me, he gives me courage to live and strong confidence. Our first business, which is a car wash center, made me trust him, though it was only for six months. I think that I will be able to everything with his help. We always say, "Let's keep our friendship forever." I hope that he will be my best friend in the future as in the past and the present. The fact that he is my best friend is the biggest gift to me from God.
