Speed!

By Baek Sung Wu

When I take the school bus of Daejin University, I sometimes feel like I am watching the action movie Speed. The bus runs more than 80 or 100 km/h. Even in curves, the driver drives almost 100 km/h. Then all students lean left and right automatically. The reason he drives such a high speed is to make students on time for class. I cannot agree with his idea.
First of all, students and the bus driver are in danger. The speed is high enough to be killed. As you know, Korea is famous for being ranked high in car accident percentages. Moreover, the freeway from Uijungbu to school is a well known road for speeding. If you watch the cars which are speeding on the road for a while, you'd agree with me. Reasonably, who wants to put his life at risk just to make it on time for school.
Secondly, the school bus is a moving commercial. I'm sure each driver on the road recognizes the bus of Daejin University easily. If the driver drives the bus madly, other normal drivers will have a bad impression of the school. Daejin University was established recently. So the school doesn't have much reputation yet. Therefore it's a very important time to build a good reputation. I, as a student of Daejin University, want my school to acquire a better name. What student attending any university wouldn't want his university to have a good reputation.
In conclusion, I want to say to all the bus drivers of Daejin University that they must drive their buses at normal speed and safely. Though I understand they have been through a lot of stress on roads jammed with traffic, I believe there is no doubt safety should be the first consideration on the road.
