A Seal

By Lee Hyang Ji

Translated by Rodney E. Tyson & Hong Eun-Taek

Poem Gate. May 30, 2001.

While a lotus blossom carves its flowering body into the stone
While a bird carves its flying body into the stone
While a pine tree wraps itself in moonlight and walks out of the stone
While a bamboo stalk pierces the stone and rises up from a cloud
While I sink down into the silt
And push out the mud's flower bud
