My Tree

By Lee Hyang Ji

Translated by Rodney E. Tyson & Hong Eun-Taek

Poem Gate. July 19, 2002.

My tree stands along the Duman River
As well as at the foot of Nammang Mountain

My tree
Which nibbles at its sick body when hungry
Bends down to drink a little river water
And spreads its arms and fiddles the wind

It cannot catch a string of wind with any bow
And tottering, fiddles its own body even more
