Introduction "Hastily Scribbled Notes"
Students introduce themselves in these poems--who they are, where they're from, what they like and dislike, their worries, fears, hopes, and dreams.
Each of these poems begins the same, "I remember," but they all end up being very different. Students describe a variety of people, places, events, and experiences that stand out in their memories.
This assignment was intended to focus students' attention on the correct use and punctuation of subordinate clauses, but each poem is still a poem.
These poems may be very short, but they were not necessarily the easiest to write. Students spent a lot of time and effort to choose just the right words to express their thoughts and feelings in only five lines.
