COM 102 - Essay
Assignment #1
Writing from Experience:
Prewriting Exercise
Fall 2001
In your first essay, you are supposed
to describe an experience you have had in your life and then tell what
you learned from it. First, think of at least three or four possible ideas
for your essay, and then write a sentence or two about each idea. For example:
-
When I was in elementary school,
my family moved to a new city. It was difficult to make new friends.
-
After I had a serious argument with
my best friend in high school, I learned the meaning of true friendship.
-
Living in a university dormitory
has taught me to be more independent and responsible.
1.
2.
3.
4.
Second, write more about one of your
ideas on this paper. You can brainstorm, freewrite, write a paragraph,
make an outline, or anything else that will help you develop your idea,
but do it now in class. If you need more space, you can continue on the
back of this page or on another paper. You can still change your topic
later, of course, but start to write about one possible topic right now.
Please hand in this prewriting at the end of class today. (I will return
it to you in our next class.)
